Sucky title, I know, but I couldn't think of anything. LET THE FEELS COMMENCE!!!
Kitexa: Loki Odinson Namacub95: Emily Clearwater
---------------------------------------------
Stark Tower was eerily quiet, unusual since there was always something going on. Emily had only been there for five minutes and was already unnerved by the silence. She and James had only just arrived back from two weeks of travelling around time and space, after her doppelganger's death and her almost death she felt like she could use the time to recover.
It was late, approaching midnight but Emily couldn't sleep. She was restless and on edge, ever since she'd nearly died she was almost scared to sleep for fear she might not wake up. She'd given everyone a scare and she was sure that James still wasn't happy that she'd went off on her own and only told Loki what she was up to.
She didn't tell him that it had been Loki's idea for her to go in the first place, because she didn't want to damage what trust he'd managed to regain and in truth she knew that it would probably be her who had to face down her doppelgänger anyway.
Emily collapsed on the couch, instintively wrapping her arms around herself and letting her mind wander, trying to distract herself until exhaustion finally won over and she drifted off.

Truth be told, he wasn't entirely sure why he was here. The last time he'd set foot in Stark Tower, that wretched Hulk character had tried to smash him to bits. Literally. Not that it would have mattered; fate (or perhaps "karma" as he'd heard mortals called it) seemed intent on finishing the job Banner had failed to complete.
He shuddered, remembering the past few days; a vile blur of fevered illness that nearly dragged him to his grave. Had Thor not intercepted he would have...
...his brother would be waiting for him, Loki knew. Once he made peace with himself on this world, he would be escorted back to his home to complete his punishment. There were no more...friends...or lovers in immediate danger. He was ready to relent to that which he so rightfully deserved.
Except, he was here. In Stark Tower. Late at night. Why? To make amends with the others? No...he cared very little for those outside of dear Natasha. Besides, it appeared neither Stark or Banner were even present.
What, then, drew him to his...not quite enemy's but certainly not friends', lair, this evening?
I do not know, the god thought as he stared out into the room before him, one foot in the doorway, the other still held back.
It unnerved him, this feeling of not knowing. One might say it...terrified him.

The sound of a door opening made Emily look up, her eyes not quite adjusted to the gloom of the night. Were Tony and Bruce back? She didn't hear any voices to confirm that. Maybe she had imagined it, sleep deprivation tended to mislead even the sharpest minds. She debated getting up to check or jut staying where she was.
Eventually, curiousity won out.
The floor was cold against her bare feet and she couldn't help the small shudder that went up and down her spine. She cautiously padded out, her eyes darting around looking for any sign of the two men who usually inhabited Stark Tower. She didn't see anything. She blew out a small breath and turned around to go back to the sofa when she saw a figure out of the corner of her eye.
If she hadn't been so restless or plagued with thoughts of her doppelgänger, then maybe Emily wouldn't have screamed out in fright, her immediate thoughts were that somehow Dark Emily had come back for her and she reacted by sending a shockwave in the direction of the figure.

"Odin's bloody beard!"
Loki swiveled back against the wall, flattening himself against it as Emily's shockwave rippled through the door. His heart slammed against his chest, the unaccounted for attack rattling his unprepared nerves. "I am not - " a throaty cough cut him off. Fanbloodytastic; THAT was healthy. "I-I am not...going to harm you!" god of mischief tried again, holding up his hands and very very tentatively reappearing in the doorway. Perhaps not the smartest tactic were this an unidentified foe. However, there were only two individuals who reacted to threat with shockwaves. And one of them was dead.
"E-Emily?"
(Btw, Nama, do you like my banner? X3)

(I am in love with that banner! ^^ I almost died when I saw it)
Emily's breaths were coming in short gasps, her brain was in survival mode, she was alone with no one to help her and she was panicking. Her senses were kicked into overdrive, she knew she should have thought before immediately assuming that the person was a threat but she'd been so on edge after the entire fiasco with her doppelgänger.
Of course, she immediately backed down when the figure spoke her name. Her grey eyes widened and she immediately felt both shock and relief crash over her. It was only Loki, he wasn't a threat...to her anyway but then she remembered that she had just tried to blast him through the door because she panicked.
"L-Loki?" she called out but it sounded more like a squeak than a word "Loki? Oh my god! I'm so sorry!"
She rushed forwards, afraid she may have hurt Loki and cursing her own idiocy.

(X3 Knew you'd like it!)
For several seconds the god remained slightly bent over, still prisoner to this horrendous coughing fit; when Emily called out, he shook his head and waved a hand back and forth. "I-I am...fine." With a slow breath, he straightened back up. "I am alright, you only...you only caught me by surprise."
Ow, bloody Hel, in Asgard's name, ow, I am never going to get used to this, OW.
This, however, he kept to himself; one does not begin a conversation declaring their body is falling apart. Instead, he smoothed his hair back--it had a habit of growing disheveled these days--and continued speaking. "Eh...what are you doing here?"

Emily winced as Loki continued to cough, she wanted to offer help but feared she'd only make things worse than she already had. She tentitively reached up and rubbed his back, trying to soothe his breathing. After the farewell he'd given her, which had touched her more than she could say, she'd repaid him by trying to kill him.
She knew eventually he'd ask why she was here. Why was she in Stark Tower instead of back in her own room at Xavier Institute with James and his family. The truth was she was still frightened, her bedroom in Xavier Institute was where she'd first encountered Dark Emily and where she'd laid out her threats. She needed to be away from all reminders of her doppelgänger.
"I...I needed some time." she replied in a barely audible mumble "I'm still not...It's complicated."
Did Loki know that her doppelgänger was dead? She hadn't seen him since she'd bid him farewell and set out to London. Then everything went fuzzy and the first clear cut memory she had was waking up in the TARDIS and immediately being crushed into a bug by her father and James.
"I'll help you to the couch." she offered after a moment of silence "It's a long story and you don't look so good...sorry."

If there hadn't been a biting sting in his chest, the green-eyed god would have been heavily ashamed by how...pathetic he must look, requiring assistance like this. Horridly embarrassing, to put it mildly.
Yet, tonight had been filled with "horridly embarrassing" moments...what was one more to top it off?
Nodding in response to her suggestion, Loki allowed the girl to ease him down onto the couch. Perhaps twas just as well; once there, he realized just how run down he was--body sinking heavily into the cushions. Thor had warned him not to overexert himself...if he could see his little brother now...
Waiting another few seconds to assure his...eck...hacking had ceased, the dark-haired man looked back up at Emily, a quizzical expression on his face.

As soon as Emily had helped Loki down onto the couch she began to feel nervous, she was sure that Loki wasn't all that happy with her. He probably thought she'd chickened out and that Dark Emily was still running around somewhere plotting to murder them and everyone else who she thought had wronged her in the past.
"Well...um." she began, sinking down beside him on the couch, suddenly conscious she was in nothing but her pyjamas "I...um...I did it. I killed her, my doppelgänger."
She drew her knees up to her chest and rested her head on them, focusing on a spot on the floor rather than Loki's piercing green eyes because she wasn'y sure how he'd react to the whole story.
"I killed her, she was hiding out in London...near my old home where I lived with my adoptive parents. Don't be angry with me...but I stole some of your daggers...and I killed her with them. Then, I can't really remember what happened after that...it's all a bit fuzzy. I think someone saved me. I can remember someone there, maybe I was hallucinating or something but I was so tired and so...I wasn't afraid. I wish I could remember...I'd like to thank whoever it was...if there was someone there. Anyway, my dad found me. You told him and James didn't you? You told them what I was doing...I guess I should thank you for that."
Emily looked up at Loki, trying to read his reaction but looked away again
"I woke up in the TARDIS. My dad and James, they were so happy but my dad was also really angry that I'd run off like that. He yelled at me for a bit...and he grounded me, kinda. He made me stay in the TARDIS with him for over a week. Then me andJames went travelling. We went to Barcelona, the planet not the city, and we saw those dogs with no noses...it was pretty funny. Then we went to see the first Romeo and Juliet play ever in the Globe. I wanted to get Shakespeare's autograph...I wanted to show off a little when we got back to Xavier Institute."
She smiled slightly at the memory, that had been a very fun day. She didn't tell Loki how she'd blushed and wished it was her and James instead of Romeo and Juliet who were up on stage saying how much they loved each other. She was such a geek.
"I dropped James off at Xavier Institue...but when I went iti my room all I could think about was her. I tried to sleep but I had this feeling...it was like she was still there. I couldn't...I came here because I thought that maybe I needed some time away but I can still feel her here...like she's haunting me."

Well, that was certainly a mouthful.
So this is what happened while his own mistfortunes had unfolded.
"...Oh..." Loki said. "...I had forgotten you took them from me. I retrieved them from the...battlefield after returning you to her father." A tired, very faint smile tugged at his lips. "It was I who informed them of your intentions. As twas I who played the dangerous game and combat death from claiming...you..." Pleasantries fell, eyes growing distant, almost...lost. Was this not some kind of irony?
If it was, he failed to notice it.
Thoughts continued to consume him until the second part of Emily's explanation prodded his brain back to attention. "I do not blame you for desiring a retreat." The green-eyed god continued, though still, focus remained torn. "Overcoming one's fears does not happen in a single night..."

Emily Shook her head. Despite Loki's words she still felt like she was running away from a ghost. What could a dead girl do to her? How could a ghost harm a living person? It was stupid, she knew that but the fear she felt alone in the dark was all too real. She'd done her best to hide her true feelings from James because she'd scared him by almost dying and didn't want to burden him more with her own emotional baggage.
"I wish it could. I'm alive and she's dead. I should be happy. She's not going to kill anyone else. She's dead and I killed her." she spoke more to herself than to Loki but she couldn't help but look at her hands and remember the sight of blood covering them. Would she ever forget that?
Then his previous words registered in her mind. He said he'd been there and that he'd fought of death. Her head shot up and her grey eyes went to Loki. She blinked...he had to be joking right?
"You...it was you!" Emily couldn't believe it. When they had parted, she would have tentitively said they were friends but she didn'g think that Loki thought the same. The thought of him holding her and trying to stop her from dying until her father came was a fantastical one at best "You...but...I...why? I thought you...I didn't think you liked me that much."

"Ehehe...your friend accused me of something similar." the god remaarked with a slight chuckle. The laugh faded, and with it, his gaze dropped. "you mortals function heavily on debts paid and owed. Let us say your life was a debt I owed to you for previously intercepting your doppelganger." Loki trailed off, succoming to his thougts once more. It was a debt he owed. He owed her for stepping in lest her other self seize the upper hand. But it was more than that. The evil girl had come after him; the two girls were enemies but had he not got involved, would her vendetta have been so strong?
"...very few would do for me as you have done given my past...actions."

Emily sat in stunned silence, listening to Loki explain why he had decided to save her life. She didn't think she mattered that much, she assumed that he liked her as much as he liked everyone else which was very little or not at all. Still...he had saved her life. He had made sure that she still clung to life long enough for her father to arrive. She didn't believe she owed him any particular debt, she didn't keep a record of what she owed or what people owed her.
She wondered if maybe her doppelgänger's appearance had allowed Loki a chance to redeem himself. If he hadn't have killed her the first time and she hadn't had a vendetta against him...would he be the same? She didn't know but she hoped that maybe he could have gotten here on his own.
"I like to think that everyone deserves a second chance. You could have changed for the better if you had the chance...and you have." Emily insisted "You're a better person now. Thank you...for saving me."

Irony seemed to favor him this evening; perhaps he had changed...he knew he did. But what good did change do when it came too late in the game?
Stop it, you fool; you are not yet at death's door. There is no need to treat today as if it were your last.
"Thanks is unnecessary." Loki said, tone still subdued. "I only reminded death how foolish it was to remove you from this world so soon." Now, finally, he raised his head and met her gaze once more. "You are a rarity in this world, child. You, your friend..." a soft snort. "Bound so strongly to defending good at such a young age...I..." he faltered, then exhaled a quivering breath "...understand now what it was my brother was trying to teach...alas, I've learned too late..."

Emily felt the blush creeping up onto her cheeks, she only hoped that it was dark enough that Loki wouldn't notice.
She and James were a bit of an anomaly. They were only teenagers and yet they had already saved people older than they and helped to right wrongs like many people older than them both. If death had claimed her...would James have continued on? She didn't know but she didn't want to test that theory. They were a team. They worked together. She might be a rarity but as was nothing without James.
The last part of Loki's statement made her brows furrow in confusion. Why was it 'too late'? Was something wrong?
"It's never too late." she stated "Everyone can be saved, some just have to try harder than others."
