Okay I WON'T be posting much in here, but I really, really, REALLY want to put this up and get some feedback. In the angst!verse, Pepper and Patches are friends as kids, but as they get older, they drift farther and farther apart. So I decided to write a fic as kids based off of this song: Please listen to the song, it's a HUGE part of the fic!
Fall is here. Hear the yell. Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence
Books and pens
I can tell that we are gonna be friends
Yes, I can tell that we are gonna be friends
Today was the first day of “school” on Dearly Farm, much to most of the pups annoyance. Annabelle took it upon herself to teach most of the pups what they would learn at a human school. She felt that it was her responsibility.
Walk with me, Suzie Lee,
through the park and by the tree
We can rest upon the ground, and
look at all the bugs we found
Safely walk to school without a sound
We safely walk to school without a sound
Pepper emerged sleepily from the barn. Annabelle insisted on having her “school” outside until it got cold. The pup was envious. Not ALL of the pups had to go to this. Only a select few.
All the other pups were annoyed by it because One made such a big deal out of it. Patches made her go because his brother was forcing him to. Soon, she spotted a familiar patched pup. “Hey Patches!” she called out to her best friend. “Ready to go to school?”
Patches nodded his head. “Yeah! C’mon! Annabelle said that we could walk over to Hiccup Hole by ourselves this year.”
Pepper smiled. Finally it could just be the two of them walking together. One thought they weren’t “old” enough to be by themselves. The pup was snapped out of her thoughts when she heard
“Hey Pep! Come check out all the bugs!”
Pepper rushed over to where Patches was. “That’s soooo cool!” she yipped. The pup poked one of them and it squirmed a little bit. After a few minutes, the two left the bugs and walked to school.
Here we are, no one else
We walk to school all by ourselves.
There’s dirt on our uniforms from chasing all the ants and worms. We clean up and now it’s time to learn
We clean up and now it’s time to learn
“Alright everyone! Settle down!” Annabelle called out before sitting in front of her small “class.” The only ones in here “class” were her four other siblings, Pepper, and Patches. She had tried to persuade some of Pepper’s other siblings like Penny, Lucky, Cadpig, Patch, and Rolly, only for them to turn her down. “It’s time to begin!”
Numbers, letters, learn to spell
Nouns, and books, and show-and-tell
Playtime we will through the ball,
then back to class through the hall
Teacher marks our height against the wall
Teacher marks our height against the wall
Pepper and Patches actually liked school. They didn’t notice any time pass. Because they didn’t notice anything. They sat side-by-side in every class. Pepper laughed. “Annabelle thought you sounded funny.”
Patches laughed too. “But, she liked it when you sang.”
The two walked side-by-side home that night, talking about their day and how they were going to dream about the bugs and the things they learned. But mostly, how they were going to walk to school together the next morning and what kind of adventures they would have.
Tonight I’ll dream in my bed
while silly thoughts run through my head
of the bugs and alphabet
When I wake tomorrow I bet,
you and I will walk together again
‘Cause I can tell that we are gonna be friends
Yes, I can tell that we are gonna be friends
Fall is here. Hear the yell. Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence

I can tell that we are gonna be friends
