I personally think that with the more popular portayal of Patches, they're too alike for anything long-term and it just seems like there's little growth to be had between the two, little conflict for them to get through together to make them stronger, and that it works better as a childhood romance.
However, there's no way to say for sure what kind of people they'd grow up to be so maybe if their personalities took mildly different directions in adulthood I could see it being more appealing. Either way, I imagine the two could be the best of besties if nothing else.
Hope that was fair enough considering most people know my feelings for it.

Personally, I agree with Bri; it's the same reason I'm not a fan of Dodgel, either. Characters who are too alike, in my veiw, don't make for a good long-term pairing.

I still like them. Even if I've set them as best friends/one-sided love in the angst!verse, a part of me will always love them together <3
