Two summers ago, which would be before my last year of high school, I was given this book for summer reading. Before reading it, I was thinking 'Oh, great. A huge book that I'm going to absolutely hate'. Of course, summer reading has a way of surprising me. Years before that we got assigned to read The Three Musketeers, Great Expectations, and Quo Vadis and I ended up loving all three of those books. So in the back of my mind I decided to give The Count of Monte Cristo a chance. At the same time, I was intimidated because the book is well over 1000 pages. So I set out to read it.
Sure enough, I came to really love the book. The plot twists, the scheming, the revenge, the Count himself, just... I loved everything about it. It started out a bit slow, but after Edmond ended up in jail and eventually became the Count it really picked up. It's easily become one of my all time favorite books.
So, what are you guys' thoughts on The Count of Monte Cristo? Or am I the only one here that's read it? CX
