Nova had to admit it, she wanted to do exactly what Milo had just done. Even though the male seemed to hate it - although he had asked - it had got most of the mud off his back, and honestly, in spite of the pond scum - a bit of which she could see lodged behind the other pup's ear - it looked lovely and refreshing. Besides, she was less likely to get into trouble if she came home just soaking wet rather than with her shirt front covered with mud.
"Wait there a moment," she instructed Milo, then threw herself forward into the shallow water, disappearing under the surface. The water, while scummy and disgusting, felt lovely and cool as it soaked her fur, and through half-closed eyes she could see it washing the worst of the mud from her clothes. A moment later, when she couldn't hold her breath any longer, Nova burst back out of the water, grinning. Like Milo, her shirt clung to her, making any body-shape she did posess very pronounced, her fur dripped, and her tie felt heavy, as saturated by the water as it was, but unlike him, she really didn't care. Nova pushed herself up from her hands and knees and into a standing position, and gave herself a good shake, possibly dousing Milo again in the process.
"Now, wasn't that fun?" she chuckled, glancing at the other pup in a way that dared him to disagree.

"NO." The sharp reply rang through the late afternoon air sharp as a knife, startling some birds out of their roosts in the crooks of the trees. Milo stood there, teeth chattering and his limbs convusling with the cold clinging to his fur as the water continued to drip down all his clothes and fur. He stared at Nova with a very hard glare, one that was sure to shut up anyone. It was one of the few times he was genuinely angry. If it was anything less he would have just been exasperated and panicky... but this was the last straw. "It's-s late... a-and-d I'm c-c-cold-d..." he spat through clenched teeth. "Y-you... you..." Again, he heaved a huge sigh, seeming to release his anger with a single breath. He bowed his head almost apologetically and said nothing for a few moments. He didn't know what to say. He was mad at Nova, this was true but... as much as her intentions frustrated him (Devin and Dad had attempted such things before and none of them had made any progress on the boy, in fact, he was certain it only made his paranoia worse), he knew she meant well by it. It wasn't like she was trying to piss him off on purpose. She just didn't understand was all. He glanced up at her with sad eyes, looking for some hint of forgiveness. Forgiveness for his burst of anger and some apologies on her part for putting him through this... however unlikely the latter may have been.
((*cough cough* Ew. Dusty thread. Figured I should do something about it ;P))

"Hey! You asked me to!" Nova protested hotly, starting to shiver herself now, too. It was getting cold now that the sun was beginning to drop out of sight behind the trees, and soaked as they both were, well... not even Nova could call walking home like this fun. Maybe she had got a little carried away... although like she said, Milo had asked.
"...and hey, at least you're not covered in mud anymore," Nova added quietly, before giving a sigh and falling into a sort of awkward silence as she shifted uncomfortably in her sodden uniform. While the water's temperature had seemed nice at first, now she was just feeling horribly cold and imagined Milo had to be feeling much the same way. Even though he had asked... Nova couldn't help but think she'd overdone it, and she scratched at her shirt collar awkwardly.
"Um... did this help at all?" she asked after a long pause. "Tell my you're at least a little less crazy-paranoid now?"

Milo heaved an exasperated sigh. "As much as I'd love to say yes... no. Only difference is that now, I'm soaked, freezing, and crazy-paranoid." He felt a slight tickle in his nose and before he knew it he was convulsed in an abrupt sneeze. He gasped and slapped his sodden wet sleeves against his muzzle. "Oh shit... shit. SHIT. SHIIIIIT." The patched dog swore four times in rapid succession, shaking his head and feeling the telltale feeling of a tightening chest... the sure sign of an approaching panic attack. He knew it was a bad idea. He'd known it. Why oh why oh WHY did he jump into that disgusting grimy pond if he knew it was just going to make him sick? "Oh god I'm sick. I'm gonna catch a cold. No. I'm gonna get pneumonia. I'm going to get pneumonia and I'm going to DIE. I'm going to die a cold, lonely death AND IT'S ALL GOING TO BE YOUR FAULT." The poor boy was a wreck now, wringing his saturated sleeves in his paws, occasionally tugging at his tie in his nevrousness, pacing and hyperventilating and even beginning to shake a bit. He threw the last remark in an accusory tone right in Nova's direction, complete with a short glare that was gone within a second as he continued pacing in his panic.

"Hey, wait a minute...!" Nova held up her paws defensively. It had been Milo's own idea she half drown him, he couldn't blame her for that; and besides, she was standing here just as saturated as he was. Nova shivered, withdrawing her hands in order to hug her own shoulders as though that would do anything to warm her up. "I'm just as cold and wet as you are, and if I'm not going to catch pneumonia - which I'm NOT," she added forcefully, "- then you're not either. And when you don't, you'll see that I'm right and none of this was so bad." She wiped her nose on the back of her damp hand, wondering if she mightn't be catching at least a cold, though she doubted anything worse.
"Look, come on, I'll get you home," she announced abruptly. Forgoing the tie this time - experience had taught Nova that a soaked tie pulled tight was even more of a bitch to undo than a dry one, and she wasn't so cruel as to inflict that upon Milo on top of everything else - Nova instead gripped the male by the back of his shirt collar and began half-leading/half-dragging him back the way they'd come. It was starting to get dark now, she abruptly noticed - how long had they been out here? - as she again levered the rusty gate open with her free hand and proping it open against her knee long enough to pull Milo back out through it.
"Trust me, though, in a couple of days, you'll look back on this and realise it wasn't as bad as you're making out," she assured him, trying to grin, although her chattering teeth made it come across as more of a grimace.
