A very, very small portion of his heart curled within itself when she started to cry.
It unfurled a second after.
This world was not a sunshine-lollipop-fantasy of smiles. The sooner she stopped living in that delusion, the better.
"I know you do." he alleged, almost calmly."you needed me so damn badly you condemned me to unyielding immortality because you were too selfish to let me GO!" he stormed over to her and leaned in, so close their noses nearly touched. "I- don't- need -you." James hissed. "I do t want you here, I don't want you at ALL. Get. out. Now."

She had to hand it to James. He knew exactly which words to use to wound her.
She could only stare at him in horrified disbelief. The worst part is, she semi-believed him. Had she saved him because of her own selfishness? Did she give James life for his own good...or was it solely for her own benefit. She tried to shove those bile-filled horrible thoughts to the back of her mind but she couldn't. James knew how to get inside her head without using telepathy. He knew exactly what to say to inspire her or to make her break.
She could only shake her head, trying her best to supress the sob building in her throat. She couldn't leave. Not yet. So she met his gaze and tried her best to calm herself.
"You do realise that those were my lives before they were your's." she surprised herself that her voice remained level "I was immortal too once."

"Once." James echoed flatly, trembling now. He wanted her to leave. She wouldn't. It was driving him up the wall. "But you aren't anymore. Are you. " he was trying to hurt her, break that level facade, tear her down to his level so she's realize whatever THIS WAS she was trying to do was a waste of time. "You ignorantly passed your curse onto me and now I get to experience the JOYS of living forever while you get to spend the rest of your life with the definitive knowledge your story has an ending. So thanks a fucking lot, time lord. Really. Nice going."

"Even so...I have thousands of years. Thousands, James, if not tens of thousands. You can't die but I have to watch as everyone I know withers and dies around me. I get the 'joys' of watching people be born, love and die while I linger on. By the time I get to die I'll have seen whole nations and empires rise, rule and wither away into dust. Hell, I may outlive humans as a species. You don't know what that's like...and the best part is that when I'm gone no one will even remember me because my species will be dead. Extinct. No more Time Lords. Think about that for a while."
She met his gaze levelly, daring him to try and say something that would make him seem like the victim. He couldn't die but she had millennia still ahead of her and at the end she would be entirely and utterly alone. No one would remember her because there would be no one left who even remembered what a Time Lord was or who would even recognise the name Emily Clearwater.
"I mightn't be immortal...but I'll still live a damn long time, mutant."

Damn her. Fucking...DAMN her.
Trembling turned to a violent, seething shaking; he would not see her out to be he victim here. This, every fucking thing he went through was HER fault. How dare she twist his words around! How dare she seek sympathy! This was her doing! Her fault her fault her fault!
"Okay. You'll live a long fucking time." James finally growled, once more balling fists at his sides. "Thatll give you what, ten centuries, a hundred? To reflect on what you did to me. Have fun, Clearwater." Spinning to the side, he brushes past her, deliberatly slamming his shoulder into hers on his way out. Where he was going didn't matter. As long as he got away from her, he didn't care.

Emily too was shaking but not from anger but from trying to stop herself from breaking down in front of James. She had to remain calm. She had to focus. She couldn't let how completely helpless and alone she felt really show.
So she didn't try and stop James from slamming his shouldwe into her chest.
She fell, winded, and slammed down on the wooden floor with a loud and echoing thump. Her head throbbed, she'd smacked it when she fell but her chest hurt worse...it was then to her horror that she realised that she had landed near enough on her stomach.
Oh crap! Oh shit!
Panic flooded her system especially when she felt a twinge in her abdomen when she tried to push herself up. It was a painful twinge but not that severe...maybe she had over exaggerated how badly she fell. She had bitten her head pretty hard that she was still seeing stars. She managed to push herself into a sitting position before she felt another painful twinge, more intense but she still managed to get herself to onto her feet.
"James!" she yelled after him "James! Wait! I need to...I'm preg--!"
She didn't get to finish her sentence because suddenly she was falling to the ground again in blinding agony. She felt something inside her come loose, she didn't know what it was but her horror and dear were drowned out by waves of pain, the kind of pain which could have choked her if she had not screamed out.
A single, loud, piercing and agonised scream.

He'd made it halfway down the hall when an agonizing cry ripped through the air, freezing him in place. It was her, he knew it was her, he'd memorized her voice by heart when he was a boy and he knew without tapping into his powers that something horrible had transpired in his short absense.
James' breath caught in his throat, a cold chill seizing his chest. He shouldn't care. He shouldn't care he had every right not to care this was her fault she was to blame she was responsible for the agony he's suffered...but that shrill, peircing shriek was a sound he'd made how many times before? How many times had he cried out in anguish when Vivian peeled off his skin, shot him through the chest, raped him, beat him...how many times had he screamed and no one come? How many times had he begged for someone, anyone, to make it stop?
How long had he had to wait until someone finally came...?
Spinning sharply around, James doubled back to his room, skidding to a stop by Emily's crumpled form. "Emily? Emily!" he cried, falling to his knees by her side. "What happened?! What is it?! What's wrong?!"

Pain, so much pain. Emily could only curl in on herself, cradling her abdomen and praying.
Something had gone wrong. Something was seriously seriously wrong. Her thoughts were running rampant, fear that cut her to the bone and chilled all the blood in her body was all she could feel. And the pain. She clamped her has down to stop hersel from screaming out again and again, clenched so tight her teeth were starting to hurt.
She could feel something warm and sticky pooling in her jeans, drenching the denim and sticking it to her skin. It was then that she let out another scream, another horror filed scream.
Then suddenly James was there, fear on his face, she wondered if she was imagining him. She hadn't seen anything other than anger for months. But here he was staring down at her as waves of agony ripped from her core. She tried to speak but only strangled gasps and moans escaped her lips.
GET RAVEN! she screamed at him mentally.

Horror white-washed his face; so long had he lived with a narrow-minded scope filtering his vision he'd forgotten how to respond to an outside tragedy. "O-okay -okay" he stammered, hands hovering over her body but too afraid to touch. Widening his telepathy, James locked in on his mother's mind. MOM! Mom something's wrong with Emily you have to--my room--NOW!!
Raven had been flipping through maternity books in the library, sorting through chapters to show to the young tome lord later; James' cry froze her blood and she immediately dropped what she was doing. The baby. it had to be the baby; Emily had been under so much stress lately and James was doing nothing to help--he didn even KNOW--and now something was wrong--
Making a beeline for her son's room, Raven staggered through the doorway, holding onto the door itself to rectify herself. Gold eyes widened; met with those of the terrified James and the girl wrapped in a ball at her feet. Raven's heart jerked painfully in her chest but she forced herself to stay calm for the sake of the children.
"Mom-" James sputtered in a tight voice "I-I-I don't know--"
"James." Raven said calmly, kneeling down beside Emily, "I need you to call 911. I'll stay with her" she added when anxiety distorted his face. "If you want to help her, GO."
Bobbing his head in quick short motions, eyes lingering on Emily a moment longer, then he bolted from the room.
With her son out of the way, Raven turned her attention to the young time lord. "Emily, she stated firmly, trying to steer the girl's attention away from her pain "can you tell me what happened?"

Emily shook her head dumbly, she didn't trust herself to try and speak for fear she could do nothing but yell out. Whatever was happening, her child was in danger.
She pressed her hands against the bump on her abdomen and prayed, prayed to any deity she could think of. The baby wasn't ready. She was too young yet, she wouldn't survive and any chance that she could was slipping through their fingers like grains of sand. She couldn't lose this child, she couldn't fathom losing this child.
"I-I--gaaah....fell. W-We were-nghhh-f-fighting a-and..." she trailed off for a moment, clenching her teth as yet another wave of agony crashed over her "I-It's all m-m-my fault."
She chances a look away from Raven's golden eyes to herself. The front of her jeans were dyed a deep red to her mid thighs and she wanted to scream again. She shouldn't be bleeding that heavily.
She couldn't breathe. She couldn't think. Her mind went numb.

The blood, the position...Raven's chest twisted further; she'd been right then. Something...something was wrong with the child. "Okay, it's okay," the elder woman murmured, "they'll be here soon--" JAMES! How long until the EMTs arrive?!
"F-five minutes-" James stammered aloud, clambering back into the room, breathing hard. "they're - they're close- they'll be here soon-" Raven had been the one to ask the question, but James was speaking to Emily bow, scooting closer to her, panic stricken across his face. "S-sorry, I'm sorry, Em I-I didn't mean --" his hands hovered over her again, then his left traveled down to hers, planning to squeeze it of support or aplogy or some other emotion besides rhis guilt gnawing at his chest...and that's when he felt it. A firm roundness where the flat of her belly should be. Eyes bulged....suddenly that narrow scope seemed much wider than before. The foetal position, the staggering pain in her abdomen, the blood on her jeans...what she'd been trying to tell him earlier...
"Oh-oh-my..fuck..FUCK!" hand retracted sharply, color draining away further from his features as the pieces put together.
"James--" Raven tried, warrily watching her shaking son; now wasn't the time to have an emotional breakdown. "James, s-son, please--"
"Sh-she's pregnant..." he gasped hoarsly, a sick feeling filling his stomach. "you're pregnant..."

James' voice caused Emily to look up, she bit her lip to stop herself from saying anything. It was darkly and tragically ironic that when their child's life hung in the balance...only them did James realise the truth.
She shouldn't have fought with him. She should have just said what she had come to say and then maybe...maybe she wouldn't be lying here with the knowledge that their child could be dying inside of her. This wasn't supposed to go like this. She had at least another three to four months before their child was due and now...now she could lose her.
But if she had used protection in the first place, if she had stopped and thought, then she'd never be in this mess to begin with...but she'd never regret her child's life.
Her hand shook as she reached out for James. She did need him. She needed him now more than ever. She was scared and in agony and she needed someone to cling to. She tried her best to meet his eyes despite the pain and the fact that she was shaking like a leaf.
I'm so so sorry. This is all my fault, James. I wanted to tell you...but you were so angry and...I didn't want you to suffer because I was stupid and impulsive...please...I need you. Please. I love you.

His mind--body--EVERYTHING trembling like a frightened wet kitten, James took her hand, squeezing it tightly, as though that single motion was her only lifeline and without it, she'd leave him.
He didn't want that.
He said he did...
But he didn't.
He didn't want her to leave him. Not for good. Not like this. He needed her...he...he still loved her...
A strangled noise tore through James' throat; gold eyes stinging with tears. "E-Emily..." he whimpered, pressing her hand to his cheek. "Don't - don't ap-apologize...my-this i-is my--"
Wailing sirens cut him off; his head shot up, but he still held onto her. Help had finally arrived.
Hang on, please hang on, please don't leave me...

Emily couldn't stop shaking. She could feel the blood seeping into her already soaked jeans and out onto the floor, her whole body was convulsing no matter how hard she tried to remain still. The whole world seemed to be spinning
Except James.
She pressed her hand close against his cheek. He was her lifeline. Her breath hitched in her throat when he spoke. Her thumb traced his cheek and she shakily wiped away a tear that was rolling down.
She loved him. She loved him so much. She didn't want to leave him. She didn't want to lose their child either.
Not today. she told him mentally, rememebering her words to him at the end of the world Not today.
She was aware that someone had entered the room but she focused all her energy on James. She focused on him and clinged to conciousness. She wasn't going to leave him.
"Sir, we need you to move." a foreign voice instructed as a stranger came into veiw behind James. A paramedic. Out of the corner of her eyes she spotted another one asking Raven for information on what had happened and how long she'd been like this.
She only focused on James, giving him her best attempt at a reassuring smile.

No...no no no no "no no no..." James murmured quickly, head shaking from side to side. He couldn't leave her, he couldn't...she needed him, she needed him right here, right now--if he left, she'd be all alone and he couldn't leave her alone like this...he couldn't...
"James..." The soft but urgent voice of his mother fluttered into his ears, but he only turned to look at her when he felt her hand squeeze his shoulder. "You have to let go of her, they need to take her to the hospital."
"No, no no I need to -- I gotta -- "
"It'll be okay, James." She soothed, easing him back slow and steady. "She'll be okay. They'll take her to a doctor and they'll help her, alright? But only if you let go, honey."
A nervous, airy whimper passed through the telepath's lips; he nodded numbly and released Emily's hand. His eyes never left her face.
With James out of the way, the EMTs went to work. Laying out a stretcher, they cautiously, gently, lifted Emily's convulsing form and strapped her down; hustling out of the room immediately afterwards. No sooner had they done so then mother and son rose to their feet; mother didn't need spoken word that James would sooner die himself then stay behind while the ambulance took Emily away. It shouldn't take too much convincing; they were a family, even now, in every sense of the word.
(Should we skip to the hospital now?)
