Set after the movie. Just for Patchy and I.
Phantom - Vanellope
Another day of races was over. The arcade was closing and the random roster had been selected for the next day, which meant little Vanellope had free time until morning. She relished that fact. While she would have loved to spend her free time with Ralph, somehow it felt more fitting to stay in Sugar Rush this time. So, she stayed.
As Vanellope walked away from where the karts were put to rest for the night, she got a good look at herself. Her body was coated in a thick layer of chocolate dust from all the sharp turns she had taken, and it made her little nose wrinkle a little. On top of that, she smelled kind of funny. "Stinkbrain doesn't have anything on this today." Vanellope snickered. Oh, if Ralph were there... she could have gone into a long winded conversation with him on smell alone. But, that was for another time. She had other things to think about.
Vanellope began to wipe chocolate dust from her face and removed her goggles, shaking her head a bit and sending particles of the stuff flying from her hair, before pausing for a moment. While she wasn't absolutely certain if she was alone, there was a slight suspicion at the back of her mind that another racer might have decided to hang back with her. So, Vanellope waited to see if she was right.

Patchy: Candlehead
"Uh, hi Vanellope." Green haired girl gave a small greeting, it was strange to think after all this time that Vanellope was actually someone that she used to get along to. The fact she used to make fun of the young girl was still a surprise to her. Even now Candle was still kind of nervous talking to her. But maybe now it was time for a better start. Maybe a new friendship. "Good racing today."

So, she had been right. Vanellope did wonder for a beat why Candlehead had chosen to hang around Sugar Rush instead of going off with Taffyta and the others, but it was a moment after that initial thought that she remembered her position among her peers had changed since Ralph had come along. Vanellope would have been lying to herself if she said it wasn't taking a while to get used to the fact, especially after being berated by Taffyta and the others for so long for what she supposedly was.
"Hey, Candle." Vanellope greeted. It wasn't that difficult to realize there was still some sort of tension between the pair of them. After everything that had happened, it would have been surprising if there wasn't that awkwardness. But Vanellope wasn't going to play like she realized it was there. She wanted to just relax. "You were pretty good yourself out there. Got me pretty good with those candy seekers in that last race." Vanellope chuckled. She'd almost spun out of control, sure, but even Vanellope had to admit it had been well timed.
...Now what? They couldn't just keep awkwardly exchanging back and forth banter with them both still fresh from the races. They needed some place more relaxing to talk. "Wanna come hang out in the candy cane forest? I figure we could probably use a break from the track, and it's not like I'm needed anywhere right now." she said.

Candle couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, well, you still are better than me. You seem to have all the tricks up your sleeves." the green haired girl smiled, and then she was a bit surprised by the offer of wanting to hang out with Vanellope. "You mean it, you wanna hang out with me? You know despite everything?"

Vanellope nodded in response. She didn't see any harm in the two of them hanging out. Besides, it wasn't hurting anybody. Well... except maybe Sour Bill, but not even he could complain if she went to hang out with a fellow racer. "Sure, why not? It's not like anyone's gonna come looking for us while we're out there, right?" Vanellope asked. She wasn't going to lie that what had happened in the past might have bothered her still. The past, however, was just that. The past. They didn't need to dwell on it forever. Besides, she'd forgiven them after everything that had been wrecked got fixed up.
"Come on, it'll be fun. It's better than hanging out here all covered in chocolate dust and stuff, right?" Vanellope asked. She took that moment after speaking to brush a bit more dust from her hoodie. She was lucky that the kids playing the game generally couldn't tell if their designated racer was all dusty or not during the races. Now, though, she wanted to try and get the dust off before heading to the forest.

Candle had to agree, that did sound better than covered in chocolate. She smiled shaking several colorful sprinkles and powder out of her hair. "Sure, sounds like fun. You hang out there often? I've only really raced there." Her green eyes were happy though, maybe now she could become closer to the girl now. Without Taffaya around, with the blonde around, she felt really pressured to live up to perfection.
But with Vanellope, maybe she could finally be herself.

"Oh, sure. Lotsa times! It's a great place, really. You get a great view of the game from up in the trees, too." Vanellope said. She would know, of course. Having spent a lot of her time on her own before then, she'd gotten good at climbing the striped trees. Vanellope didn't know if Candlehead and the others were as good, but for the moment it didn't matter. They didn't have to treat it like a competition. Outside of the races, they were free to be themselves and act however they wanted. This, of course included goofing around... should the conversation allow it.
Vanellope briefly contemplated racing Candlehead to the candy trees, but decided against it. It seemed like it would be more fun to just walk and talk on the way there. So, as she walked, she decided to try and keep the conversation going. "It's a little off the beaten path, but totally worth going to. The forest, I mean. It's pretty cool, seeing a whole bunch of stripey trees and being able to see the game from a different perspective." she said.

Candle had always wanted to see what the race looked like from a sky-high view. Now it was her chance. "Okay, that sounds like fun. let's go!" she said happily. "I mean now that we don't have to worry about that whole mess with the cy-bugs."

"Yeah... would have been a real shame if those nasty things had been left to wreck the place." Vanellope said. She was glad everything had gotten fixed, though. If it hadn't they wouldn't have had a game anymore. She might not have been around still if that had happened. Vanellope quickened her pace a bit, putting a bit of a spring in her step as she moved, and motioned for Candlehead to follow. It wouldn't have been that hard to follow her, but just in case she didn't want her fellow racer to get too far behind.
The white and red trees were beginning to come into view, and Vanellope couldn't keep herself from grinning at the sight. How far she had come since meeting Ralph in that forest. How far Sugar Rush had come, too. It was almost like it was a different game in some aspects. Like Ralph's very presence had left a sort of mark on it, but in a good way. Maybe that notion was what had made the trip seem shorter than it would have been otherwise. In any case, Vanellope was happy. She wanted Candlehead to be happy, too, which was why she was bringing her to where it had all begun.
"Come on! Not much farther!"

Candle looked at the trees, it was kind of nice to see it especially when it wasn't being crowded by carts. "It's pretty." she replied, speaking her thoughts every time that she saw them. She really did love the candy cane forest. "I've always loved looking at the trees here."

Coming to a stop near a particularly tall tree, Vanellope paused to look up at the high, stripey branches. From the ground it was pretty, but from the top... well, that was the best part. She proceeded to hoist herself up onto one of the lower striped branches and let herself relax a bit when she was on it. "It's even better from up high. Just watch out for the double stripes." Vanellope said. She motioned to one of the higher branches, which did indeed have a noticeably different stripe pattern from some of the other branches. She didn't know if Candlehead knew about the double stripes and the trouble they could cause, so she felt it best to inform her.
"They break if you touch 'em, so watch out." Vanellope said. With that, she proceeded to start hoisting herself up again. Tiny, dusty hands gripped the branch above her and she pulled herself up again. Once she was up, she let her feet dangle down and looked to Candlehead again. Vanellope wasn't too high up yet, but it still did kind of amuse her seeing the distance between the pair of them. "Hello down there!" Vanellope giggled.

Green haired girl couldn't help but laugh. and gave a wave. Now it was her turn. Rubbing her hands together, she narrowed her eyes, before getting ready to climb. And climb she did, Candle had been getting pretty good at climbing, until...well, she came across a doublestripped branch. "Eep!" she reached out to grab another branch, but was too late.
She looked up at Vanellope, covered in goo. "I'm okay! I'm okay!" she said happily. "Ah! My candle!"

Vanellope watched Candlehead start her climb and followed her lead, nimbly climbing from branch to branch. Then, she heard Candlehead yelp and the sound of her fellow racer plop into the frosting-covered ground beneath them. Vanellope cringed at the sound and gripped the branch she was on with her legs before changing her position so she was hanging upside down. She opened her mouth, prepared to ask if the green-haired racer was okay, but Candlehead confirmed it before she could ask.
"Told you the double stripes were tricky." Vanellope chuckled. Of course, the green-haired girl's candle had gone out from the fall in the frosting. She had to sympathize with that. It probably wasn't the first time that candle hat of hers had gone out. "You need a hand? I can come back down and help if you want." Vanellope said. She wouldn't be much of a friend if she didn't ask if she needed help.

"No no, i got it." Candle replied, giving a small salutue. Adjusting her candle hat, she started climbing again. It took a little bit of climbing and a lot of avoiding of double-stripes but she managed to get up to where the black haired girl was waiting. "I did it!" she said happily. "I did it!" she probably would have jumped up and down but the idea of falling off again did not sound pleasant, her green eyes went to the view and widened. "Wooow!"

"Awesome!"
Vanellope brought herself around right side up and proceeded to lean back against the trunk of the candy cane tree. Usually Vanellope climbed the trees by herself, so it was a lot more fun having another racer to be with. She folded her arms back behind her head and let a contented sigh escape her as she looked out across the distance of Sugar Rush. She could see the snowy ice cream mountains, the cola mountain, and even the castle in the distance. It was beautiful, seeing all across the land without actually having to race to every corner of it.
"Just look at the view, Candlehead. We couldn't ever see it all from on the ground. I mean... we get to see it while we race, but not like this. It's all blurred and not nearly as cool when we're in our karts." Vanellope said. It was fantastic, at least in her opinion. With how busy things were during the day, Vanellope took every opportunity she could to cherish any opportunities she had to see the view. It was a little different since all that had happened, but pretty nonetheless.
