WARNING. Wreck-it Ralph spoilers within! Do not read if you have not yet seen Wreck-it Ralph!
The game Sugar Rush first appeared in Litwak's arcade just five months before Fix-it Felix Junior's 15th year anniversary. At the time, Turbo was still game jumping in disguise with the hopes that he could find a new game to get into without risking being caught. Since Sugar Rush was such a new game, he thought that the residents of the game wouldn't know the terminology of 'going Turbo' and it would be easy to take over. He decided to wait, though. Turbo's mindset at the time was to see if the game survived a year and then take it over.
After a year, Turbo went into Tapper's (still disguised). Turbo knew that Tapper knew more about any of the games in the arcade than any other character, and that meant he would have something that he needed to get access to something within Sugar Rush. He got to talking with Tapper and, after a few drinks, succeeded in convincing Tapper to let him see the cheat codes he had laying around. Tapper inadvertently showed Turbo the code he needed: the Sugar Rush code. After jotting it down quickly on a stray napkin he happened to see, Turbo left Tapper's and set out to rewrite the code of the new racing game.
In the year before Turbo set out to make his move, Sugar Rush was a simple and sweet little game. Vanellope was the Princess with a love for racing and was loved by the other residents in Sugar Rush. Sour Bill was still her right-hand man, Duncan and Wynchell her police force, and the other racers her friends. There were a few kinks, like Taffyta and Rancis being jealous of her skills and a few of the less popular racers jealous of her popularity, but otherwise Vanellope lived a good life. She couldn't have asked for anything better.
Taffyta, Rancis, and Candlehead were a close-knit trio. Taffyta was one of the more popular racers and quite skilled at doing what she loved. Rancis was her right-hand man and another of the popular racers. Candlehead was their slower friend and a racer of mediocre popularity who won only a handful of races. Jubileena and Citrusella were sisters, as were Minty and Sticky, while Torvald was Minty and Sticky's brother. Gloyd, Torvald, and Rancis were all best bros, too, while Jubileena, Snowanna, Adorabeezle, Swizzle, and Crumbelina were all close. Candlehead was also a good friend of Vanellope's.
When Turbo snuck into Sugar Rush, he infiltrated Vanellope's castle late at night and made his way to where the code door would be located. He almost got there undetected, but Sour Bill encountered him. Fearing that Turbo would try to do something to Sugar Rush's Princess, Sour Bill tried to protect the code door and prevent Turbo from breaking in. What he didn't count on was Turbo being able to overpower him. Turbo was able to beat Sour Bill into submission before he could call for assistance, and forced the ball of sour candy into helping him get to the game's code. He had to use a long strand of licorice tied to the door to keep himself from floating away into nonexistence, but Turbo was able to get inside with Sour Bill to pull him back when he was done.
Once inside, Turbo looked for someone of importance within the code. What he found was an NPC referred to only as 'the King' within the code. He figured it would be easy to steal this NPC's identity, and so he overwrote the code so he could take on the form of the game's King. The problem was in the game's best racer, Princess Vanellope Von Schweetz. Well, Turbo couldn't have her around to question his being there. That was when he got a wicked idea while still inside the code; he would simply destroy the Princess and lock away the memories of the racers and residents. Genius! So, with Sour Bill watching, Turbo proceeded to rip apart Vanellope's code, thinking he had destroyed her, and put her special Princess kart into his own inventory. After doing so, he locked away the memories of the residents and racers (including Sour Bill) so that no one would know what happened.
The next morning, before the arcade opened, the new Turbo (under the name King Candy, which is how he will be referred to as of now) discovered Vanellope hadn't been destroyed and had her forced out of the castle. She didn't know what was happening, for she couldn't remember that she was the Princess or a racer. When she tried to convince King Candy to let her race, she started to show signs of being messed up by King Candy's interference with the code. This was when King Candy declared that Vanellope was a glitch, and therefore convinced the others that she wasn't meant to be in the game. Since the other racers couldn't remember Vanellope being their Princess or a racer, they were quick to agree with King Candy and started to treat Vanellope badly and went so far as to exclude her entirely from the races, as King Candy had convinced them that Vanellope racing would lead to there being accidents on the track in the form of Vanellope being a danger to all of them with her twitching and glitching.
As a result of having her code ripped apart because of Turbo's attempt at destroying her, Vanellope was left with nothing but mismatched clothing to call her own: a hoodie, her minty colored candy cane stockings, the paper cup skirt, brown boots, and her dirty, candy-sprinkled hair. Over the next fourteen years, Vanellope would make many attempts at trying to be a real racer because she thought it was in her glitched coding. Time and time again, though, Vanellope would be stopped and finally banned from the kart bakery. During the first year of being a glitch, Vanellope found the hidden track within Diet Cola Mountain and made it into her home.
Just days before Sugar Rush's 15th anniversary, Vanellope would set to work to create a kart of her own. Even though she couldn't get access to the real kart bakery, she had access to the scraps in the junkyard. Eventually, Vanellope put together the Lickety Split and thought she would be able to enter races with it. There was just one problem, though; in order for a racer within Sugar Rush to have a shot at being on the random roster for kids to select from the next day, they needed to use a gold coin and buy their way into the race. Vanellope lacked such a coin, and so her dreams were crushed for a time. She knew she would never have her chance at racing if she couldn't get a gold coin.
Vanellope's chance came in a smelly package five months later, when Ralph rocketed his way into Sugar Rush with a cybug in tow. She stole his medal from him and used it to buy her way into a race at long last. After being tormented by Taffyta and the other racers, and after working out a deal with Ralph, Vanellope would finally have a real kart to her name as well. Over the course of the rest of the day, Vanellope would bond with Ralph through learning how to finally race properly. She came to view Ralph as an older brother of sorts and looked up to him because she was grateful for his help. As a gift of thanks, Vanellope went to the trouble of making him a cookie medal. Nothing could go wrong! Vanellope would have her chance at being a real racer, she had a real friend, and she had a kart. Everything was going to be perfect.
However, Vanellope's world was shattered when Ralph tried to convince her to drop out of the race. She discovered he had gotten the medal she'd stolen from him back and believed he had betrayed her. Much to her dismay, she was forced to watch as Ralph destroyed the kart they had made together and effectively had her dreams crushed. After declaring that Ralph really was a bad guy, Vanellope ran away. She didn't care where she ended up. All that mattered in Vanellope's mind was getting away and crying her eyes out because her best friend and big brother figure had betrayed her. It was then that Vanellope was captured by King Candy's forces and thrown into the fungeon.
After being locked in the fungeon, King Candy came to taunt her. He told her that she would never be a real racer and that all she would ever be was a glitch. Later, Vanellope was rescued by Ralph (who had gotten her kart fixed by Felix) and they made amends so she could participate in the random roster race. It was thanks to Vanellope's glitching later in the race that she was able to bypass Taffyta, Candlehead, and Rancis, and she was able to expose King Candy for who he really was when he tried to make her crash.
Finally, Vanellope was able to get a handle on her glitch power and was able to save Ralph's life after he destroyed the mentos covering of Diet Cola Mountain to create a beacon to destroy the cybugs infesting Sugar Rush, which ultimately killed Turbo. By finally crossing the finish line, Vanellope was able to reset Sugar Rush and was brought back to her status of Princess. However, Vanellope changed her title to President. Because of Turbo's shoddy job of trying to destroy her code, Vanellope was never permanently fixed by the game being reset. She kept her glitch powers as a result of this, but wasn't classified as a glitch within the code.
After everything was said and done, Vanellope made amends with Taffyta and the other racers and went on to become good friends with Candlehead again. She also took to looking at Ralph as her big brother and best friend, while Felix and Calhoun would be her adopted parents. They went on to form a very strange, cross-game family. She also started to look at Sour Bill as a kind of fatherly figure, because he did seem to care for her in his own strange little way. Sour Bill allowed Vanellope to only wear her
After the events of the movie, Vanellope, Ralph, Felix and Calhoun would frequently visit one another after the arcade closed at night. Calhoun eventually moved in with Felix, but Ralph and Vanellope decided to stay in their respective games. Vanellope would only stay in Fix-it Felix Junior for extended periods if Ralph felt it was necessary to take care of her, such as in situations where Sour Bill would be unable to take care of her himself. For the most part, though, Vanellope and Ralph typically don't spend extended periods of time in one another's games. She also dubbed the kart she made with Ralph the Sprinksmidge, due to the amount of sprinkles that had been compiled together more on one side than the other.
That's it. Enjoy!
