WARNING. Herein lie a couple Wreck-it Ralph spoilers. Read at your own risk!
Exactly one year after Sugar Rush's arrival in Litwak's arcade, a mysterious being made his way into the game. He came in the dead of night, beating Sour Bill into submission and making him assist him in his dark deed, and the rightful ruler of Sugar Rush was dethroned. She was made to forget everything that wasn't deeply ingrained into her code (her title, the fact that she owned a special kart at one point, where she lived... everything) and only had her name and the deeply ingrained idea that she was a racer. This was all Vanellope was left with when Turbo, or 'King Candy' as he would later be known, came along. The other racers and citizens of Sugar Rush were made to forget as well. They had no idea that the wayward ragamuffin of a girl that was ousted from the castle and proclaimed a reject was once their Princess.
There was one gift that King Candy bestowed when he tried to eliminate Vanellope, and that was making her a glitch. Because of her status, she was ostracized by the other racers and treated as a freak. On a regular basis they would go out of their way to try and torment her as much as possible, even going so far as to get physical and try to crush her spirits. Try as they might, though, they couldn't completely crush Vanellope's dream of becoming a racer. Even with her status as a glitch she still had her deeply ingrained thought that she was meant to race. So, for fourteen years, Vanellope tried to scratch out a living and tried to make herself into a racer while coping with her glitching. She never gained full control over her glitching, and there were times throughout the years when it became violent and painful to her.
When the fifteenth anniversary of Sugar Rush passed, Vanellope had hope. She thought that she would be able to sneak into a random roster race with her pedal kart, the Lickety Split, and make her dream come true. However, she was found out. Taffyta and the others of her little posse discovered the Lickety Split and wrecked it right in front of Vanellope. She tried to make a new kart, but was soon discovered by the doughnut police and locked in the fungeon for a week. She was let out because King Candy thought it would be amusing to see how much more they could crush her spirits.
Another year passed, and no one made things easier for her. In the year that passed Vanellope made more attempts at making a kart for herself, but each attempt was rather disastrous in one way or another. There was even one point when Vanellope's attempt at building a kart caused an explosion and she wound up injured in the process. She also lacked gold coins to participate in races in the first place, and so she took to trying to steal one. One day, when she thought Candlehead wasn't home, Vanellope attempted to sneak into her home and snag a gold coin for herself. This ended badly, as there were a few other racers along with Candlehead in the home in question, and they were quick to bestow Vanellope with another cruel taunt. 'Thief'.
In the years that Vanellope lived this life, she never did find a home to call her own. She wandered Sugar Rush aimlessly, living as a homeless racer, and was completely friendless within her own game. After the taunts of 'thief' were started, Vanellope's spirits were almost completely crushed. She was alone and would never truly be a racer, and this gave the others more fuel with which to taunt her.
Because Vanellope was made a glitch, she is unable to leave Sugar Rush no matter how badly she wishes it to be otherwise. She grew to hate her home and yearned for a world beyond the firewall, a friend... anything to save her from the cruelty of her home. But she would never gain any of that. Never had Taffyta's words rung more true:
"You will never be a racer. You're just a glitch, and that's all you'll ever be!"
...So, yeah. Wreck-it Ralph AU with Vanellope angst. Just wanted to mess around with an angsty AU in which she never meets Ralph. It's kind of rough right now, but I may develop it more later.
