I don't even know if this is in the right place. But even if it's centred around our 'sonas, it's still set within the realm of canon - so I figured that fit it better than any of the other boards, at least.

The water... it was nice.
Here, beside the lake, was probably one of his most favourite spots in all of Zootopia, if Jared was being honest. He'd always liked being near open water, if not exactly in it himself; just near enough to dip his toes in every now and then if he so desired, but to otherwise keep dry. It was only a little thing, he was well aware... but still, to him, it was something. Ever since he'd moved to the big city to start at university, he'd made a habit of visiting this spot. It wasn't far from his small apartment, and...
It was a beautiful spot.
The lake was deep, deep enough for the mammals who were more at home in the water to swim and dive deeply without being hindered; trees had been planted around its edge, their reflections looking as though they stretched just as far down into the lake's depths as they did up towards the sky; and miniature waterfalls were dotted around in the shallows, creating a delightful gushing sound as the water cascaded across them. And when it was caught from just the right angle, sunlight shimmered across the water in enticing patterns. It hardly felt like being in the middle of the city at all - and maybe that was another part of why Jared liked it so much.
He'd never lived in the city growing up, after all. Even after a year or so of living here, it still tended to get overwhelming in overly large doeses; which made this place the perfect one to forget about it and just relax.
He didn't have to worry much about being disturbed. Like most inhabitants of Zootopia, the animals hanging around here - whether splashing about in the lake or just loitering near the shallows as he was - seemed inclinded to give him a wide berth and cast odd looks his way. Jared still wasn't entirely sure why he stood out so much, when he hadn't seen other mammals getting the same treatment; but at the same time, he didn't much mind. He wasn't a people person, after all; if animals kept away from him, he'd return the favour.
It didn't really occur to him that his being a fox was what kept everyone at a wary distance. The big city's stereotypes hadn't much existed in the distant town where he'd grown up.
Stretching with his forelegs behind his head, the adolescent vulpine leant back against a couple of rocks near the lake's edge, looking as casual as anything. Jared had nowhere in particular to be right then; he had no classes over the weekend, no urgent assignments for any of them, and no friends he felt close enough with that he'd hang out with them. No commitments right then, besides... what? Doing some more sketching or something back home? That was only a hobby with no great urgency behind it.
So for now, he was happy to just observe. Some way away, in the deeper part of the lake, he could see a large group of otters splashing about and having a good time. By this point otters seemed like a permanent fixture of the lake; there always seemed to be at least one or two around. As watergoing mammals, he supposed that was fairly natural. This lot seemed to be a group of friends - at a guess, they were all about the same age - and he watched them play together with an odd feeling. It wasn't exactly loneliness, since he usually got by perfectly fine with no-one's company but his own, but still...
Still a thought that they had something he was missing out on. For that matter, everyone else in the park seemed to be in groups, as well; no-one but him seemed to be here on their own. Or at least, that was what he thought for now.
He hadn't quite noticed, yet, that one otter didn't seem as if she was really a part of the group either.
