A quaint little smile graced the young Xavier's lips. Don't worry. He assured her, securing his finger to his temple, It will only take a minute. With that final statement, he stepped into her mind.
What he saw blew him away.
A girl--looking remarkably similar to Emily but younger in her eyes and expressions, laughing and smiling with a woman James could only assume to be her mother....such feelings of happiness....but then, oh, another image; people--a kind of people he'd never seen before--a power, a duty...tears, heartbreak, rage....
But an overall sense of responsibility.
He wove through her memories, feeling his jaw drop a fraction more at each one; faces and places he'd only read about, and more still he didn't recognize at all....he didn't know what to make of it; it seemed so farfetched and yet these completely, unquestionably real.
As promised, after a minute had gone by, James dropped his hand and sat back, closing his eyes until the images stopped swirling about, and took a calming breath. "That....wow. That's crazy." were the first words out of his mouth, spoken as his eyelids lifted and he met her gaze again. "That's.....gotta be the craziest thing I've ever experienced."

Emily could feel James shifting through her mind, focusing on her memories and emotions. She bit her lip as he continued to probe and resisted the urge to throw up her shields and block him out, even when her mind was screaming at her to do so.
All the memories and emotions that James was passing through, especially the ones of her life before she was given her task, made the feeling of loneliness intensify. She missed her mother and her life before all of the craziness set in.
Finally after a minute, although it felt like longer to her, James pulled out of her mind. A small half-smile graced her face at his words.
"Tell me about it."

She smiled.
Good.
Now he didn't feel nearly as bad about the one he wore. His head still buzzed but at least she hadn't tried to shut him out. That would have risen cause for suspicion and he really didn't want any friction between he and Emily. She was the most interesting thing he'd come across since beginning a private investigation on his father.
"Wow....two-thousand years." He said, detaching his gaze from hers and scanning her form. "I still can't believe it." A pause; his already curled lips twisting into a more playful grin"...you look good for an old lady."

All the blood in Emily's body seemed to rush to her cheeks at that statement. She ducked her head in an attempt to hide this somewhat. She very rarely interacted with boys her own age, well biological age anyway. She looked up again although her cheeks still were still tinged pink.
"Um...thank you?" she replied but then frowned at the last part "Old lady? Really?" she asked crossing her arms and faking annoyance "I'm still techniquely a teenager."

"Yes. Really." James answered in a bubblier tone, cheeky smirk threatening to split his face. He was being a bit silly and he knew it, but it had been quite a while since he'd talked to anyone his age that DIDN'T automatically think "Raven's son" or "Xavier's kid" upon first contact. Much less a funny little thing like Emily. "I bet you've got all the grandpas' heads turning." He jested, leaning forward again and gesturing pointedly at her. Another laugh wiggled from his throat and his hand fell back in his lap; this was just so odd!

"Oh aren't you a charmer." Emily replied sarcastically, her smile morphing into a smirk "Jealous that you won't look this good when you're an old geezer?"
The conversation, in one swoop, had gone from serious to down right silly. It was fun, she liked it. It felt good to joke around with James...he was nice. Although the comment on her age would not go unforgotten. She was not an old lady.

A hand immediately went to his heart, mock-horror adorning his face. "How dare you!" He cried, pouring on the dramatics and trying not to laugh in this moment of "seriousness." A curtain of hair fell in front of his eyes, shielding the top part of his face safe for his gaping mouth. "I'll have you know I age half the rate as a regular person! I'll be pleasantly pepper-haired when I'm well into my eighties, thank you!"
Okay...maaaaaaaaybe that was a bit much. Hank HAD done a blood test a few years back and his cells WERE similar to his mother's but because he'd aged at a normal rate so far it was any one's guess how old he'd actually live to be.
Oh well. It was all for the moment of the thing.

Emily couldn't help the laugh that escaped her. The fact that the only clear part of his face she could see was his mouth and the mental image of an older James flirting with some old ladies reduced her to a fit of laughter. She wiped at her eyes and desperately tried to regain some composure so she could speak.
"I'm sure you'll be quite the heartbreaker in the old folks home." she replied "Besides how do you know you won't be bald by that age?"

Always the actor; James immediately stiffened, stared at her, then swept his hand theatrically through his hair. "You see this?? This right here is far too voluminous to just fall out and die.' Noththathairactuallydiedbutshhhhh. "My father had a full head of hair, my mother's still got all her hair" A beat, adopting an almost eerily serious expression and tone to boot. "I assure you, Emily. I will not go bald." Then he promptly sat back, grinning like an idiot, and bowed from his seat in the chair. "Thank you, thank you. I'm here all week." (You know, James....you shouldn't use your father as an example here XD;

(I know, Emily knows this...she's just using it to wind him up a bit ^^)
Emily raised an eyebrow at James and resisted the urge to laugh "You're more concerned over your hair than a girl would be. That's kind of worrying in a guy." she said. To emphise her point she flicked her braid off her shoulder where it had been resting. Her grey eyes studied him for a second before she reverted back to the previous topic.
"Still I'm sure the grandmas will love you. Mr 'voluminous hair'. You'll be the life and soul of the old folks home."

(aaah right! she probably has a kind of idea what happened, right? XD Oh James...at least you won't be tortured.....physically XD; He decided to let that comment about his sexuality slide: there were many a magazine in his room to testify against THAT. But the latter.... "Of course, darling." He said with a wink, odd-colored irises twinkling, as if this were a fact, and not just the product of adolescent antics. "They won't be able to keep their hands off me!"

(Yep although the only Charles Xavier she's heard about is the bald wheelchair bound one. I love how these two are kinda flirting with each other here ^^)
"Oh I'm just writhing with jealousy. All those older women fawning her you...I just don't know what I'll do with myself." Emily replied although her tone and expression meant it was difficult to know if she was mocking him or being serious "But on the bright side, I'll still be able to go out with hot teenage guys when I'm hitting three thousand years old."
For the first time since she sat down, Emily relaxed her posture and sat further back into the loveseat. The longer she and James talked...the more trusting she became and more safe she felt.

(oh really? Hehe then looks like there are still a few surprises left for her after all X3. And me too XD for all their gifts, they really are just kids lol)
James frowned. She had him there.
"well...." pause. Think. Retalliate! "who knows what life will be like three thousand years from now. You'd show up on a date all decked out in jeans and they'd be wearing...like...." Another pause "....silver jumpsuits or something!"
another sci-fi reference, James? Is that the only way to carry out conversation here?
...okay maybe NOT....but with this talk of universes and futuristic lovers, how could he NOT?
.....provided she even knew what he was talking about...
But she knew about the butterfly effect...
Yes, but the butterfly effect and "Lost in Space" weren't exactly the same thing.
"ahahe...you'll have to forgive me" the boy added, shifting from his theatrical demeanor back to a casual-if not a liiiiittle sheepish--tone "I..hehe....watch a lot of science fiction stuff."

(Yep, at the end of the day they're just two teenagers...but keep the surprises coming!)
From futuristic dating to science fiction, not a huge leap in topic but it certainly wasn't what Emily had expected. Someone clearly watched a little too much Doctor Who...not that she blamed him, she personally over the show. It was clear that he felt slightly awkward about his love of science fiction but she quickly reassured him.
"It's alright. We are allowed to like stuff like that." Emily replied with a smile "Liking Doctor Who and Star Trek and stuff isn't a hanging offense."
Then she paused...did James actually know what she was talking about? Since she didn't know the year she didn't know if Star Trek or Doctor Who even existed...Doctor Who was the sixties and so was Star Trek as far as she knew. A lightbulb went on in her mind. If James did know what she was talking about then she'd have a reasonable margin of what year she was in!

When she mentioned liking science fiction, his eyes lit up.
When she mentioned doctor Who, he thought he'd struck gold.
But when she mentioned Star Trek....
"I find a life without science fiction highly illogical." James said; going straight-faced and monotone in a....not too shabby, not too great Mister Spock impression...to which he immefiatly broke with an enthusiastic smirk. "Aaah I love Star Trek. Came out two years after I was born--and now they're re-running it!" Another laugh, eyes shining as his mind took him back to his early years--running down the halls with his Phaser-water gun, spying pm the new recruit "Klingons" then promptly retreating to his living room-Bridge upon being discovered. Those were the days....
"....I know some people think it's weird for someone my age to like that kinda thing but" he shrugged "I don't care. Plus, you know, my dad was kinda into it so I'm not really surprised...."
