No, the mischief god agreed internally, lips pursing in a tight, perhaps vaguely nervous line. Someone is most evidently not happy with me... Eyes unfocused, and for several seconds, Loki's attention drifted into space, images of what would surely be an unpleasant reunion between he and his brother Thor flashing through his mind.
Hammers, staffs, fists, fury, screaming begging crying why couldn't everything just have been different--
With a grimace, and maybe the inkling of the faintest shudder, he reeled out of his thoughts, and again looked at his gray-eyed companion. "You- you said you'd take me to the Avengers" the god half-accused, half desperatelywantedtodistracthimselfandchange the subject, cringing at the unintentional stammer in his voice "but I see no one here. Could it be you led me astray, Emily? Have you really any idea where they are?"
------------------
If James hadn't been thrown by the unexpected mentioning of his father, he most certainly was by the towering blond man decked out in medieval-ish garb. Gold eyes glanced at Emily, cautiously. I saw this guy in the other guy's head; this is why they think we're gods. He told her telepathically, while his physical body shifted ever so subtly into a slightly more defensive position.
Steve, meanwhile, addressed said medieval-dressed man's arrival with the same authority used before. "Thor. Didn't expect to see you back so soon...what's going on?"
"Three guesses." Banner muttered from behind him.

"They are here." Emily fight to keep herself from snarling at Loki instead she gave him a sickeningly sweet smile, that would piss him off, she was sure "Don't you have any faith in me?"
She had been aiming for Stark Tower, she didn't know which floor of the building those Avengers were likely to be on so she had just chosen a random floor to land on. It wasn't as if she'd been there before, although in retrospect that would have been a good idea....
But she wasn't going to let Loki know that. She still intended to hold as much ground over him as she possibly could. She disn't trust him but as long as she could give the impression that she was either more powerful than him or that he needed her then she wouldn't have to worry as much about him stabbing her in the back.
"I was focusing on Stark Tower so my best guess is that we are somewhere inside. Jumping between time and space isn't an exact science, you know, most times it's luck where you end up."
-------------------------------------
Emily could only stare at Thor, her grey eyes jumping to James and then back again. She found it both flattering and slightly unnerving in equal measures that she and James could be mistaken for being gods...but now that she realised who she was looking at the fear overwhelmed everything else.
This is not going to end well... Emily grimaced internally.
"My brother has escaped from Asgard." Thor declared striding forwards to the group "His cell had not been unlocked and all the guards had been either rendered unconscious or killed. We do not know his current whereabouts but one of the guards descibed a girl of Migardian appearance that we believe may be responsible."
"And I just thought you missed our company" Tony smirked.
"The guard described her as being brown of hair, with fair skin and grey eyes." Thor continued as if Tony hadn't spoken.
Emily glanced side-long at James as what felt like every eye in the room turned her to her.

It would be luck, Loki thought begrudgingly, doing nothing to withhold his displeasure from his face. Luck rarely held him in its favor these days. these days, days before that, years, growing up...always one card short of a full deck...
"Well then..." he said with a dismissive exhale. "I suppose we'll have to track them down on foot..." He took off without waiting for her; his window of opportunity was closing, Thor was somewhere about the premise...he couldn't afford to lose anymore time jumping through worm holes with a disillusioned teenager. If he wanted to deal with the Avengers, he'd have to do it on his own.
----------
James stiffened, stepping in front of Emily defensively. "It's not her." He stated firmly, hands unconsciously balling into fists. HOW he managed to look Thor in the eye without stammering was beyond him...something to do with starting internal conflicts and all that, maybe. Yeah. Probably that.
"Gray eyes? Brown hair?" Steve cut in, narrowing his gaze at Emily. "She fits the bill; you're telling us she's not our target?"
His back teeth ground together, but he kept talking. "No...no she's - uh..." crap... "well...sort of it's complicated..." Figures he'd lose his ground in front of a captain over a god. Damn Logan and his discipline tactics. "We're, um...the one responsible is Emily's evil...uh...duplicate. From another dimension."
Please tell me that didn't sound as crazy as I think it did...

Emily let Loki walk past her before she followed behind him, shoving her hands into the pockets of her leather coat, looking like she was merely out on a pleasant stroll instead of walking with the God of Mischeif through Stark Tower looking for the Avengers.
"At least you can have one of those massive fame reunions at the end of this." Emily said, her grey eyes wandering "You know, you can hug and cry and confess it was actually you who stole the last cookie from the cookie jar and all that crap."
She was enjoying this far too much.
----------------------------------
Emily tried not to panic, but the looks of disbelief and incredulity, apparently it did sound as crazy ands James thought it did...it even sounded slightly insane to her.
"It's true." Emily said perhaps sounding a bit too desperate "It's a really long story."
Without waiting for anyone to speak, Emily launched into her explanation. She twisted her fingers nervously and played with the end of her braid, addressing the floor more often than everyone in front of her. She found herself tripping over her words and having to back track more often than not. At one point she went into a five minute aside about The Doctor that could have easily been summed up without needing to mention 'Daleks', 'Sycorax', 'Christmas Invasion' and 'aliens in London' as:
"There's a man who saves the universe. He's got a time machine called the TARDIS and he's brilliant. He's also my dad."
Galifrey and the fact that she was a Time Lord was mentioned only in passing but she knew she sounded insane anyway so she tried to keep her explaination on her alternate universe self with very little success. "So...that's everything I know." she finished. So much for a speech.

Don't flinch don't buy into it she's just trying to rattle you you're better than her petty games do NOT give--
"What?"
Dammit!
He stopped, thankful he'd hidden his hands in his pockets, lest the fists balled with each reveal his irritation.
"This is not some kind of melodramatic school-children's game." Loki spat, glaring at the Time Lord. "It would be wise, Emily, if you stopped treating it as such." Word by word, his statement hardened, an unspoken warning that she'd better watch where she stepped if she didn't want to cross the line.
---------------------------
James waited, mind wide open, peering into the men surrounding them, searching for any signs they did or didn't believe the lengthy explanation they'd been given.
So far, all he heard were a mismatch of bewildered thoughts.
Hopefully, that confusion would part.
"So..." Bruce Banner piped up, walking closer to the two teens. "You're...some kind of alien..." He said to Emily. "And you...control time...okay, nothing weird about that..." Not quite sarcastic, but not entirely won over either. He looked at Steve, waiting for the other man's opinion.
"Well..." Captain America began slowly, surveying the gray-eyed girl steadily "...it seems incredibly far-fetched..."
Crap.
"...but...you're not the strangest thing I've seen from outer space."

Emily raised an eyebrow and closed the distance between her and Loki
"I dare you." she replied, her eye eyes cold and hard as stone "Go on, I dare you. Take your best shot Mr 'Oh-look-at-me-I'm-a-norse-god'. Best shot. Right here. You take your's and I'll take mine."
Emily removed her hands from her pockets, cracking her knuckles but never taking her eyes off Loki. She wasn't backing down, he didn't scare her, she liked having the higher ground and she wasn't going to let him push her around. She called the shots here and he'd just have to get used to it.
"Well, Mr Bigshot, let's have it!"
---------------------------------
"Um...thank you...I think." Emily replied.
"I have never heard of this Galifrey." Thor stated, looking from James to Emily "If such a place does exist then it is unknown to Asgard
Emily's eyes went to the floor before looking back up again "Yeah...it's gone now. Galifrey was destroyed a long time ago...there was a war with a race of aliens called the Daleks. They're this race and basically they want to destroy everything that isn't a Dalek. My dad...it was a sadistic choice. It was Galifrey or the universe. Galifrey burned and almost every Time Lord died."
Emily bit her lip, she hated remembering that she was techincally an endangered species. All her people...almost everyone she'd ever known was gone. Burned away. She tried to force her feelings down and concentrate on the task at hand.
"And you're saying that this doppelganger of your's has broken Loki out of jail to go after you?" Tony asked looking less than convinced.
"Basically...yeah." Emily nodded "I have really no idea what she want with Loki though."

Loki's teeth ground together, hard, his eyes blown. "Do. Not. MOCK me." the mischief god hissed, nails embedded so deep into the palms of his hands they were beginning to sting. He glared at her, into those cocky gray eyes, and a deep hate filled his heart. She thought she was better than him? Thought she was so powerful JUST because she broke him out of prison even though he'd only JUST regained his power because he'd been bound and gagged and--
Hit her. Hit her. Show her what REAL power is.
He could. He SHOULD. She deserved it...every inch of that capricious little bitch deserved a solid wallop. But that's what she wanted, wasn't it. Yes. She wanted him to hit her she was BAITING him to hit her if he gave in that would only satisfy her and he was NOT ABOUT TO DO THAT!
"You....had better watch yourself...Emily..." Loki spat through his still clenched-jaw, forcing himself to exhale slowly through his nose "...I do not...take kindly to....to chastising."
----------------
He had to do something. She was losing them, and if she did, the two may as well throw in the towel. Golden gaze roaming over the faces in the room, he took a deep breath, and spoke up. "I can show you." Show them? Elaborate, James! "I mean...I have proof that we're telling the truth." Elaborate MORE, idiot.. He looked at Tony. "You mentioned Charles Xavier earlier; I'm his son."
(Question; is this an Avengers reality where the Charles Tony knows is James' father, or the canon Charles that is Patrick Stewart?)

(Well I was working on the Patrick Stewart version...just to add more confusion to the situation.)
Emily had prepared herself for a strike, she didn't honestly care if he did hit her, she had dared him to do so. Would Loki strike her? That was what she was testing. Of course, she could hit him back just as hard or maybe even harder than he could hit her. Revenge was a bitch.
So when the strike didn't come she felt both disappointed and amused in equal measures. She easily met his glare with one of her own.
"Oooh. Touch a nerve did I? So awfully sorry." Sarcasm dripped from her tone "You don't get it. This is a game and I like playing it."
She brushed past him, a smirk fitting itself back on her face. She felt like goading the
"We're more alike than you think, you know." she added "We both like our little games. The only real difference between us, Loki Odinson, is how loudly we roar. I roar very loudly indeed. Think you can match me? Think again."
---------------------------------------
When James spoke up, Emily felt like hugging him. He could convince everyone far more easily than she could, he could read minds! She looked again to the men in front of her and Tony Stark looked quite confused.
"Charles Xavier as in the bald guy in the wheelchair? The mutant? Didn't know he had a kid. You look a bit young to be his kid."
Oh perfect.
"He is." Emily insisted "He really can show you everything."

Odinsson. She....DARE insult him with such undeserving repulsive a title! Rope him in with at bumbling blond buffoon and his iron-clad posse as though he were one of them?! "Oooh you should not have done that" Loki hissed, shaking, seething....how dare she. He was not of Odin's blood. He was not an Odinsson!
With a snarl, the god of mischief suddenly propelled himself forward, striking the girl hard at the base of her scalp.
NOT an Odinsson. He was not...he was NOT...!
-----------
'Bald guy in a wheelchair.' So they were in that universe. "Well, this makes things easier." James muttered sarcastically, but only loud enough for his own ears. He hadn't specifically asked Emily which world the Avengers lived in; therefore, he couldn't REALLY complain. It just meant...more explaining.
Something he wasn't sure they still had time for.
"Uh...well...I'm actually from 1978..." the young Xavier chimed in after his friend concluded her own two cents. " Time travel and all that, you know...but that's not- that's not important. I'm a telepath, like my dad. I can read minds, project images...I can show you my memories to prove we're telling the truth."
Bruce looked uncertain. Steve looked confused.
And James was growing frustrated. "Look, don't take my word for it, just give me the okay to go inside your minds and let the images speak for themselves."

Emily hadn't expected the strike and the momentum caused her to fall forwards. It she managed to catch herself before her face made contact with the ground. Her head no throbbed, she straightened and gingerly touched the area where Loki had hit her. She gave a small hiss of pain which morphed into a snarl.
"You shouldn't have done that." Emily growled, turning to face Loki and raising her hand "Turns out that I can do more than time travel."
She shoved her hand forwards, a force field erupting from her palm and hurting towards Loki like a shockwave.
-----------------------------------------
Emily rubbed her temples, they were getting nowhere fast and she had a feeling that they were only digging themselves a deeper hole by trying to explain themselves because nothing they said seemed to get any reaction apart from confusion or suspicion.
It was then that she felt the floor shake, like a minor explosion had happened a few floors below them. She looked at James slightly panicked
Just give them the information. I think we've got company.

Had he encountered such a thing before, neutralizing the shockwave would have come naturally. Unfortunately for the mischief god, he had NOT; when Emily launched it at him, he hadn't time to process what it was she was doing and met the full force of her attack head-on. With a shriek, he lost his footing, hurtling several paces in the opposite direction, and landing hard on his back.
"Ghh...aah..."
Green eyes pinched shut, teeth grinding together in a tight grin, pain lancing up and down his body. for a moment, he'd forgotten his anger towards the girl, paralyzed by the sharp pinpricks dancing along his spine. She...had not been joking when she said she was powerful...yes, his powers had yet to come back in full but she'd hardly flinched when he hit her and then this...this, however she had conjured it, really hurt.
"You..." Loki hissed, struggling to pull himself up, "...little...wretch..."
--------------------------
He didn't have to be told twice; shaking floor = BAD things happening somewhere.
Right. Jamming his left finger to his temple, gold eyes darted to each face surrounding them. With a quick "Sorry about this" the young telepath closed his eyes, conjuring up his memories and projected them carefully into each of the Avengers' minds. Flickering images of both his past and Emily's, their adventures together through time, and the instances they'd run into his friend's darker self.
What felt like (and seemed like) a few minutes later, James opened his eyes and dropped his arm.
"We're telling the truth. Now come on, we gotta move."

Emily sauntered over to where Loki lay, dropping down onto her haunches at his side with a sadistic smirk. She cocked her head to the side, examining her handiwork with glee. She hadn't put her full force behind the blast, he'd probably have broken his spine on impact if she had and then what use would be be? None.
"Surely you could do better than that." Emily mused "The God of Mischeif and all you can think of is wretch. Pathetic! You think you know true power but there's always a bigger fish out there waiting for you, Loki, just waiting to gobble you up. It's the way of the universe."
She straightened herself up, all traces of amusement gone from her features leaving only coldness behind.
"I trust you can pick yourself up."
-------------------------------------------------
Emily held her breath and waited, the floor had stopped shaking again but Emily's stomach had wound itself into a tight knot. She knew what had caused those shocks, not a bomb...a shockwave. A forcefield let loose. Her doppleganger was only floors below them and she wasn't happy, was Loki with her now? She clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white and her fingernails began to bite into her palms.
She was scared. Utterly terrified. Still, she stood her ground. She couldn't afford to back away from this when everyone she knew was in danger of being killed.
Thor seemed to recover first, blinking rapidly and staring at James and her.
"My friends, it seems I have misjudged you. I believe an apology is in order. It seems we all fight for the same cause."

Fury flared in Loki's chest as he watched the girl walk away. He wanted to kill her. Wrap his hands around her neck and watch the life drain from that infuriatingly cocky face. NO one made a mockery of Loki Laufeyson. NO ONE.
Biting the insides of his mouth to keep from groaning, the green-eyed god slowly rose back to his feet, twitching at the biting pain rolling up and down his back. Insolent vile little whelp! He thought with a narrowing gaze, Once I knock down the Avengers, YOU will be next.
Aloud, however, he only coughed--startled juuuust a bit by the flecks of blood staining the hand he rose to cover his mouth, and continued to follow her. You will pay...you will pay dearly...
-----------------------
"...I agree with Thor." Steve added, a look of wonder on his face.
James exhaled a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. Thank freakin' goodness.
"Alright..." Captain America continued, adopting a tone of growing command. "You all saw what we're facing." A glance at James, then one at Emily. "Time to suit up."

Emily continued to walk on, ignoring the fuming god behind her, she had bigger fish to try than him. Although, she was sure that she could probably handle him if he decided to try and attack her again. He posed no immediate threat. Yet.
Her eyes went to the ceiling, those Avengers had to have felt her shockwave. They were probably preparing to fight them right now. She smirked at the thought. She'd been waiting all day for this.
"I'm sure we'll be having company shortly. Best make yourself presentable." she called back to Loki without even turning to look "We don't want to disappoint now, do we?"
--------------------------------
Emily couldn't help the smile that broke on her face. She could have turned around and hugged James if it wasn't so inappropriate. Instead she gave a nod at Steve's words, then realising however that she and James could hardly 'suit up'.
"Thank you." Emily said, her grey eyes darting down to the ground.
